The Neotropical Ornithological Congress and Congresso Brasileiro de Ornitologia were separate events until 2015, when the two congresses were jointly held in Manaus, a city in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. The symbol is based on two species of Jacamim, a bird endemic to the region. The two birds have never been found in the same location, but are shown together to represent the joining of the two congresses.
